Four Reasons Everyone Should Play Golf

  • Golf

Whether you’re trying to convince your wife, your co-worker, or yourself — there are countless reasons to get out there and play a round of golf. We’ve come up with a few of our favorites:

Low Impact Exercise

Believe it or not, you can actually get a pretty good workout from playing golf — especially if you ditch the cart. On any given golf course, there are between 200 and 700 yards of terrain between holes. And if you’re playing all 18-holes — that’s a lot of walking (two to four miles)! Plus you’ll be lugging around a heavy bag of clubs to boot.

Unlike many other sports, golf also doesn’t have an expiration date. As long as you’re healthy, you could feasibly play well into your 70s and 80s. It’s a great source of exercise for all ages.

Vitamin D Exposure

Do you feel lethargic and achy during the winter months? What about weight gain? If the answer is yes, you might have a vitamin D deficiency. Though it’s possible to get vitamin D through diet, most of what the body gets (80% to 90%) is obtained through direct sun exposure.

Unfortunately Minnesota weather doesn’t always make it easy for us to get a healthy amount of outdoor recreation. Heck, most of us were still cooped up inside until just a few days ago. So we say get outside and soak up your daily dose of vitamin D by playing a round of golf.

Mental Acuity

Unlike many other sports, golf isn’t a game of brute and physical strength — it’s a game of focus and strategy. To be successful, you must use your mind and your senses each step of the game.

And though it might take some time, training your mind to to focus and visualize for a successful round of golf has applications outside of the course. It teaches you to take a step back and ponder all of the variables standing between you and reaching your goals.

Business & Networking

Though we think playing golf for the sake of having fun is always the best way to go — there’s no denying it’s a great way to make business connections.

Golf allows you to make connections through a number of different avenues: tournaments, charities, memberships and leagues. And because you aren’t constantly moving or out of breath, it’s easy to chat and meet new people throughout the game.
